Regenerative Medicine (PRP, IRAP) FAQs

Just a few common questions about Regenerative Medicine (PRP, IRAP). If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!

  • How many treatments will my horse need?

It depends on what we’re treating and how your horse responds. Some tendon cases may be managed with a single PRP treatment plus rehab, while joint cases using conditioned serum are often planned as a short series with reassessment along the way.

  • Does it hurt?

We aim to keep horses comfortable. The injection itself is quick, and we use careful handling, sterile technique, and sedation when needed. Most horses are comfortable afterwards, but mild short-term soreness can occur.

  • Is this suitable for arthritis?

It can be, particularly for early to moderate joint change where inflammation is a big part of the problem. We’ll usually discuss it alongside weight and fitness management, farriery, workload changes, and other joint therapies rather than as a standalone answer.

  • How soon can my horse return to work?

Return-to-work timing is case-by-case and depends on the tissue involved, imaging findings, and your horse’s job. Your vet at Townsend Vet Albury will give you a staged plan and adjust it at rechecks to keep progress safe.
