Ambulatory and On-Farm For Your Pet | Townsend Vet Albury

When a horse is unwell or injured, getting them safely to a clinic is not always the simplest or safest first step. Equine ambulatory and on-farm visits let a vet assess your horse in their normal environment, then decide what can be treated on site and what needs hospital-level support.

Ambulatory and On-Farm FAQs
Just a few common questions about Ambulatory and On-Farm. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!
Do I need yards or stocks for an on-farm visit?
It helps, but it isn’t always essential. A safe, enclosed yard with good footing and lighting is often enough for many exams and treatments, and we’ll advise you ahead of time if we expect a procedure that needs more control.
Can you sedate my horse on the property?
Often, yes, if the horse is suitable for sedation and the environment is safe. We’ll assess risk first, including handling, footing, and how the horse behaves when restrained.
What kinds of cases should go straight to a clinic?
Severe colic, significant trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, breathing distress, suspected fractures, and cases needing intensive monitoring are common examples. If you’re unsure, call early and we’ll help you decide the safest first step.
Do you cover my area for farm visits?
In many cases, yes. Our ambulatory team services parts of Albury, Lavington, Thurgoona, Wodonga, Jindera, Howlong, Corowa, and we can confirm travel timing and any visit fees when you book.
