Preventative & Health Checks FAQs

Just a few common questions about Preventative & Health Checks. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!

  • How often should my horse have a preventative health check?

For many horses, annually is a sensible starting point. Seniors, broodmares, young horses, and horses in heavier work often do better with more frequent checks, especially if they travel or change environments regularly.

  • Can you do a health check on-property?

Often, yes. On-site visits can work well for multiple horses, horses that don’t travel easily, or when we want to see feed, pasture, and management in context. Availability depends on scheduling and location.

  • Do you vaccinate at the same visit?

If your horse is due and otherwise well, vaccination can usually be done during the appointment. We’ll discuss timing and disease risk based on travel, agistment, and exposure.

  • Should I request blood tests “just in case”?

Sometimes baseline bloods are useful, particularly for older horses or horses with subtle changes in weight, recovery, or performance. We’ll recommend tests when they add meaning, and explain what the results can and cannot tell you.
