We stock a range of highly effective flea treatments. We are happy to provide advice on how to most effectively deal with a flea problem. Fleas are prolific egg layers, meaning that for every flea you see, there are hundreds of eggs in the home, waiting to hatch out new fleas and reinfect your pet. The key to flea control is treating all pets with a highly effective product, and using consistent treatments (e.g. every month) as well as treating the home environment.
Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes and can cause serious disease. We recommend Proheart heartworm injections which can be started from 12 weeks of age. A second injection is given at six months of age, and from there the heartworm injection is given at each annual health check. We have a free reminder service for the heartworm injections. The alternative for heartworm prevention is using a monthly product, however if doses are missed then your pet is not protected. Please ask us for advice.
Puppies need to be treated for roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm every two weeks until 12 weeks of age, and then every month until six months of age. Dogs older than six months need worming every three months for life. Please note that some worming products are not as effective as others. We are happy to give advice on which products to use. Worming treatments are dosed to the bodyweight of the pet - please feel free to weight your pet at the clinic, and we will be able to provide the correct worming dose.
Paralysis ticks are found on the East Coast of Australia from Lakes Entrance to Cape York, and can cause life-threatening illness in dogs and cats. Any pet travelling to the coast needs effective tick prevention as well as daily 'searching' for ticks on their body. Please ask us about the best products to use and the symptoms to look out for.
