Veterinary acupuncture

We are now offering an animal acupuncture service in the clinic!

Performed by registered veterinary surgeon:

Dr. Emma Pilkington BVSc (Merit) BSc CVA (IVAS) - IVAS Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture.

Acupuncture can be an effective tool in reducing pain from conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease, muscle strains as well as post-operatively for surgeries involving cruciates, patellas, hips or fracture repair to help reduce the need for pain relief medications.

Acupuncture can also improve the vitality and cognitive function in older animals, aid the management of feline asthma, urinary incontinence, as well as lick granulomas.

How does it work?

Simply put, by stimulating certain acupoint, we can trigger physiological changes in the body. These include the release of chemicals within the body which reduce pain, increasing the number of specific white blood cells to boost our immune system, as well as regulating blood pressure (this is all dependent on which points are stimulated during the treatment).
